Friday, September 2nd, 2008

Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart announced today that they will join together again on October 13th to headline a benefit concert for the Presidential campaign of Senator Barack Obama, at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, PA. Also appearing will be the Allman Brothers Band, plus opening act to be determined.

Last February, Weir, Lesh and Hart performed together for the first time since 2004 at the hugely successful “Deadheads for Obama” show at The Warfield in San Francisco. Now founding Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann joins his musical brethren in service of this historic cause, with Warren Haynes and Jeff Chimenti rounding out the band.

Stay tuned to dead.net for further details, ticket information, etc.

I've been pretty vocal about being anti the whole "deadheads for obama" thing, but the more and more I learn about this nut job Palin, the more freaked out I am about having her anywhere near the Oval Office, let alone a "heartbeat away". Hell, at this point in time I'd pay to see the Wiggles w/o Captain Feathersword if I thought it would help defeat the GOP ticket. Or Barney and Friends.

But I still don't want to see any configuration of the Dead w/o Jer - but that's just me.

If you hit the links and actually watch the video, tell me she's not a wacko. The far right Christian conservative movement can FUCK OFF. I had always been under the impression that politicians swore on the bible to uphold the constitution, not the other way around. Glad to know we fight religious nuts over there so we don't have to fight them here. Oh, wait a minute....

Now it appears the Church can't handle the traffice, but I love this from their website:

As Alaskans we are excited about our Governor being selected as the nominee for Vice President. As residents of Wasilla, we are ecstatic about one of our own being thrust to the national forefront. However, as a church, it is not appropriate for us to endorse any one candidate over another. As believers, we are reminded in 2 Peter 2.13 that we are to submit to those in authority. 1 Timothy 2.1-2 tells us pray for those in authority. This we will do no matter who is elected. We wish the best to Governor Palin, and Senator McCain, as well as to Senator Obama and Senator Biden.

Hmm, "we are to submit to those in authority". Is that in the King James version? BTW, he was a fag. Allahu akbar.

It is interesting. What I like is the fact that she took on the business-as-usual politics of Alaska. My problem with Joe Biden is his political insiderism. If Obama is for change why did he pick an insider like Joe. I may not know much but I feel Joe B is not about change.

Yep, she should be fine as a leader because she's not as bad as some wack job islamofacist (to use the preferred nomenclature of the day). Love the logic, NC. Besides, she's obviously the best and wisest choice McCain could have made and reflects very well on his decisionmaking powers and has nothing to do with trying to court the evangelical right and get out the votes vis-a-vis the abortion issue (which is truly a state issue, not federal) and more fears of "guys kissing guys" to make sure the same group of cronies keep their grip on power.

I have no problems with her or anyone else being a praying person and having their own relationship w/ God, Yahweh, Jehovah, Jerry Garcia, The Flying Spaghetti Monster, Allah, Beezlebub or Barney at the liquor store. My problem is when one of those people thinks that their "faith" gives them some type of direct hotline to and from that "Higher Power" that guides their decisionmaking policies. I don't want some Jesus freak waiting for the rapture to be shaping our collective foreign and domestic policy based on those beliefs. There is a reason it's the First Amendment and that TJ and other founding fathers insisted on a SEPARATION of church and state (the melding of the two is bad for BOTH).

Exactly! You need a spiritual advisor like the Rev. Jeremiah Wright for that, because clearly no one who embraces his sensible, policuially neutral version of scripture could ever be classified as a "nut job".

Sorry, but to cop a phrase you used earlier, the Obamessiah, Wright, and the rest of the religious left can FUCK OFF.

Obama claims to be a "uniter" then essentially defines a "divider" as anyone who opposes his. He's ten times creepier than anyone I see hanging out on the right.

What's suprising about the fact that band that was born of a counterculture and built a profitable career follwoing the own voices and ignorning mainstream convention would spawn a fanbase that greets their political leanings with a collective shrug? I'm guessing that no matter what the percentage of Obama supporters vs, McCain supporters (heavily in Obama's favor, no doubt) most heads don't give a flying fuck what any of the boys think about politics. The Huffington Post has a disturbing report on Palin’s right-wing church: “Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war ‘contending for your faith;’ and said that Jesus ‘operated from that position of war mode.’ ”

Just realize this: when you hear the " trooper scandel" that's going on up here you are going to hear all this info on what he did and might think she was right in using the office of the Governor to micromanage interdepartmental affairs. Just remember that all of these offenses occurred while he was still married to her sister and no one in her family said anything until her sister and him went though their messy divorce. I say this not because I think it's that scandalous ( except for tarnishing her transparent image ), I say this just to tie in the Moose hunting thing you mentioned. The WHOLE family benefitted and ate from a moose her brother in law shot on his wife's tag ( which amounts to being illegal poaching ). I don't care about THAt either. What I think is lame is a year or two AFTER the fact they make a big deal about it?

You have kids Dire. So what you're saying is that you want the FUTURE of this Country, which IS education, being potentially headed by the person who believes we should teach that the Earth is 6000 years old as valid science? The person who has actually said that the founding fathers wrote the pledge of allegiance and including one nation under God? The person who has a degree in journalism?

She has advocated teaching creationism in school and I have a HUGE problem with that. I'm all for teaching comparative religions to kids but people like Palin don't look at it that way, they want religious doctrine in the public school system. F*CK that! If I want my kids to be brainwashed I'll take them to church myself. Evolution etc. is a THEORY and should be taught as such. BUT it is a theory based on the scientific method which is THE most rational means we have that I know of to study test and observe our Universe.

As far as economic policy we'll just have to disagree but I definately don't trust the guy who claims he can balance the budget in the next four years. The same guy who has previously stated the economy isn't his strong suit. A comparative study of a non partisan tax group has examined both policies and guess which one is going to give my family the bigger relief?

True to on the latter but tax codes are tax codes. Loope holes are loopholes and the only people that I know of that have the smoke and mirrors to take advantage of loopholes are people with a lot more money than anyone I know has. The regular deduction is what the rest of us have.

Everybody's bitching about the cost of education but no one is addressing that.MANY were argueing who should pay while tons of people DROWNED while no one did shit about it to help but yet no one seems to question what we're spending money on that has been " lost" in Iraq because questioning our Government means we're terrorists.

I'd rather my taxes stay the same and the money actually go someplace that benefits our society. But that makes me a girlie liberal man I guess.

I'm all for handouts. I'm voting Obama, quitting my job, and then I'll kick back and ride the dole. The only bummer is that the band will be paying higher taxes. Wait!, they could become non-profit and play free shows. I knew Barry was the messiah. Free lunch and Ratdog!

well, atleast canada has a more melodic national anthem.

plus, it would be easier to walk around and call someone a "hoser"

I am late to this party. Just saying a few things. Some good stuff. I love Canada, like a brother been their and even say the GD there. But you must have been joking knocking our National Anthem.
The only time I hear the Canadian one is at hockey games. Which ain't too bad.

I do NOT like our national anthem; I've always preferred America the Beautiful. And at least that music is not based on a British pub tune...

I checked the Bryce Jordan Center website this AM and there is, as of yet, no mention of the show. Should be something soon if it is actually going to happen.
